Dutch salvage tug 'Barentsz-Zee' of 1957
Salvage tug "Barentsz-Zee" (526 tons gross, completed June 1957 by Schps. L. Smit & Zoon, Kinderdijk), owned by L. Smit & Co's Internationale Sleepdienst, Rotterdam, in Grand Harbour, Valetta, Malta, on 11th April 1964. In 1977 she was transferred to Smit-Lloyd B.V., Singapore, & renamed "Smit Jakarta". Some time later she became the "Dr. Daniels" & was involved in the "Mariel boatlift" of Cuban "refugees" to Florida in May 1980, following which she was seized by the U.S. authorities & sold at auction to Capt. Craig Bailey (see http://captaincraigbailey.com/craigsworld/06drd.htm) which contains a copy of Smit's original brochure for the ship; however, he gives a different date for her construction - 1955 v. 1957 in a 1960s Lloyd's Register book). She was resold by him in 1983.
