British cargo-passenger ship 'Karanja' of 1948
British India Steam Navigation Co's "Karanja" (10,294 tons gross, built 1948 by Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd., Linthouse, Glasgow) at Karachi in November 1962. She spent her working life on the East & South Africa to India & West Pakistan service. In 1971 she came under the management of P&O General Cargo Divisiuon & the direct ownership of P&O 2 years alter, although in 1975 she transferred back to the nominal ownership of B.I. (for tax reasons, I think). She was sold in 1976 to the Shipping Corporation of India & renamed 'Nancowry' (see picture #21550
) and was scrapped in Bombay in 1988.
