Calmac - MV Isle of Arran at Ardrossan

Now the fleet 'spare' vessel , the 'Isle of Arran' is seen here at the old Irish boat linkspan in Ardrossan as the second summer freight vessel taking over from the legendary Saturn which was finally retired in August 2011.

A product of the then Ferguson-Ailsa in Port Glasgow and launched on December 2nd 1983 but didn't enter service until a year later on December 13th 1984. Of 3269grt , she is certificated to carry 448 passengers and 76 cars and engined by 2 Mirrlees Blackstone's which provide a service speed of up to 15 knots.

Nice to see her back on her old route but sad to see SATURN languishing at Rosneath.
