I had week on this ship in 1963 a trip went from our school every year one of the best holidays ever. The school was Westfield school for boys from Hinckley-Leics.
I went with my school for a week in 1967.it was great fun sleeping in hammocks and sailing around Portsmouth harbour in a converted lifeboat. We got in trouble one day when we threw the sausages that we had for tea-which were raw-at some small sailing boats. Our school was hawes down secondary from west wickham in kent.
My Great Grandfather Bertram Burt Dominey is listed in the 1901 census as being on-board the vessel Trincomalee, Portsmouth. He would have been about 16 years old. Any information on him or the type of training would be most welcome.
The ships motor boat was called the scott paine and was used for fetching fresh supplies from the mainland-it had a very smelly diesel engine I recall you were better off on deck than down below.
I was on ts foudroyant in 1961 was a good experience went to isle of Wight on old lifeboat and refined on a dinghy good and testing experience looks in good shop shape and hartlepool fashion.
I was on the ship in may 1965. I had agreat time sailing round the reserve fleet and the royal ship the best time I have had at that time. I was from rosehill school Derby.
All I can remember about my 4 day stay on the Foudroyant is our mess table being awarded a Mars bar each for tidiness - primarily for keeping the marmalade out of the butter using a single knife. Also, there was a day trip to the IOW on a sailing boat, which crossed the water at around 30 deg to the horizontal. So scared by this, I never set foot in a yatch again.....
I had a weeks training holiday on Foudroyant in 1968, I was one of a group of apprentices from James A Jobling (Pyrex glass) Sunderland. Had a great week sailing amongst the mothballed navel fleet and working on this magnificent old vessel, happy days and couldn't believe it when it came to Hartlepool on my door step.
I spent a week training on board, this ship, in 1963/4. I had good fun, they took us to the isle of wight for a afternoon, where we feel asleep on the beach. Sunburnt, sleeping in hammocks, not a good combination. I was there on behalf of t s wyvern spencer school northampton
The Ship is now in it 200th year, having been launched on 12th October 1817 as HMS Trincomalee. More pictures & information on Friends website. Http://www.friendsofhmstrincomalee.org.UK
I had a two week school holiday on board this ship when I was 14 that was in 1958 remember rowing to the Isle of Wight in a longboat followed by the Scott Pains in case anyone was seasick and going to church on Sundays in HIS Dolphin the submarine Base and going to whale island which was a gunnery school it was a great two weeks something to remember all those years ago
I had a week on TS Foudroyant in either 1964 or 1965 on a school trip, remember going sailing in horrendous conditions and nearly being drowned, sleeping in a hammock which was an experience , visiting a submarine and rowing a big boat and on the solent, I have a photograph of the lads I went with taken on the ship, my brother Robert who is 18 months older than me also went on a previous visit.
I, too, went on a school trip for ? days. Our school group (Portsmouth Southern Grammar School for Girls) were divided into groups and a rosta was used to rotate the tasks, whether it be learning knots, scrubbing the decks, clearing tables after meals or the sailing day to the I of W. I never got a wink of sleep as my hammock was at the top of a stairway to the deck below and I was terrified of falling out and down those steps! What memories!
I was aboard the Foudroyant for a week on or about 1956. My memories are of hammock "tipping" and other laddish activities involving the use of black boot polish resulting in officers calling parades in pajamas in freezing cold and rain at 3 am.
This picture of TS foudroyant brings back so many memories. i spent week on her, i think it was 1958, it was the best holiday I ever had as school boy.
I was at the London Nautical School for 3 years circa. 1981-3 and spent a week on TS Foudroyant in Portsmouth Harbour twice. An fantastic experience for a young boy. "It's eight-o'-clock, Sir"!

Absolutely loved my 2 holidays on this ship. Loved sleeping in a hammock but woe betide you if you started talking after lights out! Must have been 1970/71
Stayed on Foudroyant maybe 1962 or 63 did all sorts of activity, and remember visit to HMS Victory, some sailing and rowing, monks park school, Bristol, good memories.
Good memories Jean. if you got talking after lights out the bosun who we called creeping would stand you next to the mast in pyjamas and it was very cold - he never caught me!!
I was on the training frigate foudroyant in 1960 with members of allens bank boys shipping group our truely great teacher Mr ROWLANDS in charge. What a wonderful experience. Any of you lads out there?

Spent a week in Foudroyant on Portsmouth harbour in the summer of 1950. Great fun and increased my desire to join the RN which I did in 1953 by entering BRNC Dartmouth.
