Bremer Vulkan, Bremen, Germany
Bremer Vulkan Schiffbau Werfft was a German shipbuilder. It was founded in 1893, with the acquisition of the existing yard Johann Lange, and had its headquarters in Bremen-Vegesack, Germany.
Its history is diverse: from U-boats for the German navy to tankers, container- and passenger ships and so on.
It reached its peak in size in the 1980s when it was considered the largest shipyard in Germany.
Unfortunately the industry changed and Bremer Vulkan was declared bankrupt and was wound down in 1997, resulting in redundancies for its massive 22,000 workforce.
