Austin & Pickersgill, United Kingdom is currently named A&P Group Ltd and is one of the largest ship repair and conversion companies in the UK and has its headquarters in Hebburn, Tyne and Wear, England.
It was founded in 1954 as Austin & Pickersgill as a result of the merger of S P Austin & Son Ltd and W Pickersgill & Sons Ltd. Like many shipbuilders it has gone through some more mergers and take-overs, including (but not exclusive) London and Overseas Freighters (LOF), Bartram & Sons Ltd, nationalisation in 1977, again in 1986 privatisation and merger with Sunderland Shipbuilders Ltd renaming the company to North East Shipbuilders Ltd.
In 1989 Appledore Shipbuilders was acquired and the company renamed itself to A & P Appledore International. In 1995 it was renamed to A&P Group Ltd and got RBS as its new owners (yes, a bank). And then in 2001 it bought Cammell Laird...
