The American Ship Building Company started corporate life as Cleveland Shipbuilding (Ohio) in 1888. In 1900 it changed name to the American Ship Building Company and saw an expansion in the number of yards (through acquisitions) over the years. With yards in Lorain (Ohio), Superior (Wisconsin), Toledo (Ohio), West Bay City (Michigan), Buffalo (New York), Chicago (Illinois) and Wyandotte (Michigan). This made it a dominant builder on the Great Lakes around WWII.
And for me that is where the trail ends.... anyone any more recent info on the company (that seemed to have ceased)?
